Important Processes Information
Exclusion for Twice Failing a Required Unit
A student who commenced candidature after 1 January 2005 for the Bachelor of Commerce–Accounting degree or for a combined degree award or double degree award including the Bachelor of Commerce–Accounting degree who has failed to complete ACCG200, ACCG201, ACCG250, ACCG251 or ACCG253 after having been enrolled therein twice is excluded from the Bachelor of Commerce–Accounting degree or the combined degree award or the double degree award including the Bachelor of Commerce–Accounting degree.
Third Time Approval for Enrolment
Students are reminded about the Third Time Enrolment Rule (refer to Bachelor Degree Rules – Rule 16 in the Handbook of Undergraduate Studies) in respect of students studying degree programs in the Division of Economic and Financial Studies. In the case of students studying units offered by the Department of Accounting and Finance the following four criteria are used in the consideration of whether a student will be allowed third time enrolment:
- If the unit was the last unit in a student’s degree program OR
- If you meet this criteria submit an application for Special Approval at ERIC
- If the student has been previously been awarded a PC grade in the unit OR
- If you meet this criteria enrol in the unit as per normal via eStudent*
- The student had a GPA above 1.5 OR
- If you meet this criteria enrol in the unit as per normal via eStudent*
- The student had to have a satisfactory performance in the previous semester in all units except the unit they are requesting third time approval for.
- If you meet this criteria enrol in the unit as per normal via eStudent*
Waivers
Waivers in the Department of Accounting and Finance will only be granted if the student meets the prerequisite as set out in the Undergraduate Studies Handbook for the current year (or the previous 12 months if the prerequisites have changed).
If however a pre-requisite or co-requisite is severely affecting a student’s progression in their studies then the student may submit an application at ERIC to waive the pre-requisite or co-requisite. It is strongly suggested that students in this situation seek academic advice from the Department.
Permission for studying 14 credit points in one semester
The Department of Accounting and Finance will only accept applications from students to undertake units which total more than 14 credit points in any one semester if they have a GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 when enrolling in that semester. Students that meet this requirement should contact eStudent* Support to arrange for a fifth unit to be added to their study program.

Students are able to apply for third time approval and to study more than 14 credit points through estudent. If students need academic advice regarding any of the above matters then they should make an appointment with an Academic Advisor in the Department.
