About Us

Welcome to the Department of Accounting and Finance. We provide degree programs in accounting and finance at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with an active research environment supporting higher degree research programs.

The Macquarie University Department of Accounting and Finance is one of the largest Accounting schools in Australia with students coming from Australia and many countries around the world. It is a supportive and welcoming environment and the Division's assurance of a non-discriminatory environment incorporates our current values embracing diversity, tolerance and freedom of expression.

Career prospects are good and our recent Macquarie Accounting graduates achieved the highest starting salaries of any of the Accounting graduates from Australian Universities. (The Good Universities Guide 2006)

CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the National Institute of Accountants have accepted Macquarie University as an approved tertiary institution for the purpose of their membership qualifications. More information is available in the Accreditation section of this website or by visiting the CPA Australia, ICAA or NIA websites.

The Accounting and Finance Department delivers innovative programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. New undergraduate programs include combinations of accounting with marketing and with organisational behaviour; a new double major in accounting and finance; and the Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Applied Finance, as well as a variety of other double degrees.

Macquarie also provides extensive opportunities for inter-disciplinary studies; individually designed programs, which can accommodate both foreseen and unforseen changes to students' circumstances; and the possibility of internal transfer to Accounting after six months of full-time study in alternative Macquarie programs.

Macquarie University has a safe, quiet and pleasantly green environment. Situated in the northern suburbs of Sydney, Macquarie is conveniently close to shops and transport and incorporates the Macquarie University Research Park which is ideally positioned to attract successful organisations to North Ryde, Australia's leading high-technology precinct, and to provide opportunities for collaborative research with leading edge companies.

We have a strong commitment to research with an active seminar series, a vibrant Honours program, and generous financial support for research.
