Day 2 September 17 Morning Program only

9 - 10.30am Panel Presentations and Discussion

The PhD and Beyond

Panel chaired by Professor Shahrokh Saudagaran (University of Washington) and also comprising Professors C. Patel (Macquarie University), N. Fargher (Macquarie University), J. Okunev (Macquarie University), P.K. Sen ( University of Cincinnati), and G. Lobo (University of Houston).

The panel will discuss and elicit comments from participants on matters such as:

  • Selecting a topic
  • Finding and working with a supervisor
  • Living and coping with the PhD
  • Publishing from the PhD (during and after)
  • The publication process – journal selection; dealing with editors, reviewers.
  • Any other issues of interest (may be raised by students)

Break out sessions

These provide an opportunity for students to discuss individual issues pertaining to their PhD studies with one of the academics from the Panel.

Note:

Participants are not expected to make presentations of their own research.

Participants do not need to make any preparation for the colloquium other than thinking about questions or issues on which they would like to seek advice from research scholars.
